The NOMOS Ensemble Wind Quartet (NEWQ) is one of the most innovative and creative young chamber groups in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area of Italy. Their unique sonority and delightful stage personality, together with their extensive repertoire consisting of hundreds of original works and ingenious arrangements, allow the NEWQ to delight audiences of all ages and musical tastes. Equally at home in a concert hall, a downtown music club or any kind of non-traditional music venue, the NEWQ brings a youthful vitality and originality to every genre.

Their repertoire ranges from classical music (masterworks of the baroque, classical and romantic eras) to contemporary, covering nearly every imaginable genre in between: tangos, waltzes, light music, popular and traditional songs, love songs from the 20’s and 30’s as well as swing and jazz standards, Broadway and movie themes, pop music and much more.

Founded in 2003 by the bassoon player and composer Aljoša Tavčar and three other members of the sister-group NOMOS Ensemble, the NOMOS Ensemble Wind Quartet is formed by graduates of the State Conservatory of Music “Giuseppe Tartini” in Trieste and State Conservatory of Music “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine, Italy. Each member has studied with internationally acclaimed professional musicians including Patrick Gallois, Mario Ancillotti, Hansjörg Schellenberger and Mate Bekavac.

All members perform as freelance solo and orchestra musicians and have played with the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Symphonic Orchestra, Trieste Opera Orchestra “Giuseppe Verdi”, Trieste Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Giocosa del Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Symphonic and Chamber Orchestra Ars Atelier, among others. They have performed recitals in local, national and international music venues such as the Trieste Opera Theatre “Giuseppe Verdi”, Tripcovich Music Hall, Rossetti Theatre in Trieste, City Hall Theatre and Auditorium in Goriza, Portorož Auditorium and Slovenian Philharmonic Hall in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
